The Yugoslavian wrist straps range in color from light green-grey to dark green. The East German ones range in color from grey to a weird light green. Sometimes it's not always telling just by looking at the cotton-canvas wrist strap. On the Yugoslavian, it's just a "tear drop" shape. The East German scabbard has a "ringed bulge" about halfway down the scabbard that rings around the edge of the scabbard. You can tell the difference between an East German "Type II" bayonet from a Yugoslavian "Type II" bayonet readily by looking at the scabbard. Not a rare item at all, worth maybe $20-$25 used. When observed from the front, all the real Russian hanger hilt loop strap points to the right when fastened. Most of all the hilt loops are backward for a Russian hanger. The real Russian hangers use a smooth black stud and washer. The hilt loop stud is poor quality and not the correct finish. The rivets are poor quality and appear to have been set individually by hand, note the stamping marks around the rivets. The originals ones are folded over a round die. The bracket is folded in more of a "V" shape.
The metal bracket appears to have been reused and has light corrosion/discoloration in places. Mass produced hangers use leather cut by machine using roller cutter blades. When examined, the leather appears new and hand cut.
The embossed leather pattern, or something very similar, is currently available commercially in both brown or black.
